At its 43rd Session (Nairobi, Kenya, 11 - 13 April 2016), the IPCC decided to prepare a special report on climate
change and the oceans and the cryosphere. During its 45th Session (Guadalajara, Mexico, 28 - 31 March 2017), the
Panel approved the outline of the Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate to be finalized
in September 2019.
The Special Report was developed under the joint scientific leadership of Working Groups I and II with support from the WGII TSU.
The Special Report was considered by the Panel on 20 - 23 September 2019 in Monaco.
